Whet Wednesday

Release Party, co-hosting and co-releasing, with my friend, A.L. Kessler and her book Past Demons, February 16 1:00 - midnight CST for games, fun and prizes.

This Wednesday's excerpt is from chapter 4. If yo haven't seen earlier excerpts go back to Weekend Writing Warriors Snippet from 1/18 and later. You'll be caught up then.

In this scene, Shelbie and Dagan's troubles begin.

Shelbie blinked several times, peering once more. No. Not in his hand, but on it. A gold band, third finger, left hand. She gasped. Shock waves rolled over her. Hunter was married?
“Let me see your hand,” she blurted out, rushing to him, gripping his left hand in hers.
 “What?”
“It’s… he…” Her lids drifted down, reveling in the relief welling inside her. It’s not there.
“What’s goin on?”
She opened her mouth. Nothing came out. She turned away.
“Shelbie? He huffed out like a whiny child. “This is getting old. And us nowhere. Why do you need to see my hands?”
Shelbie ignored his last question. “No reason.” She shrugged her shoulders. “Doesn’t matter.”
“Baby, come. Sit.” He patted the couch beside him. She ignored his invitation again, and continued to pace. He gritted his teeth. Why was she avoiding him? She had her answer. It wasn’t him. Or… Stop making yourself sick over this.

“Shelbie, talk to me. Tell me what happened. Start with the park.”

Blurb:

Necessity made Shelbie Gilbrad a prostitute and thief, the thrill kept her in the business. But now she’s on the run. She’s in trouble and doesn’t see it coming, which is odd because Shelbie’s been plagued by visions her entire life.
As a self-made billionaire set on revenge, Dagan Hunter Caulfield has resigned himself of never recovering the rare green, teardrop diamond necklace. He’s moved on. His plan to surprise the woman he’s falling for, gets him the shock of his life.
Shelbie and Dagan’s worlds collide and neither will ever be the same. Yet outside forces pit them against one another, putting their lives in danger. Can he forgive her past? Can she save the man she loves?
